1. Legalisation of an official public document issued by a foreign authority
1.1 Official document issued by Indian public authorities need not get these
documents legalised from the consulate.
Most common are certificates of civil status (birth/marriage/death
certificates), diplomas, police clearance certificate and affidavits.These documents only require a single legalization (Apostille)
issued by the Ministry of External Affairs in
New Delhi
. Additional legalisation by the Belgian Consulate/Embassy is not required anymore.

1.2 Official documents issued by other foreign public authorities

legalisation is required.
2. Legalisation of other types of documents
Most common are the medical certificates issued by the approved doctors of the Belgium Consulate in Mumbai and the
formal obligations signed by the financial guarantors. Others may be documents
for commercial and administrative purpose in which a person’s signature
requires to be certified by the Consulate.
The Consulate General of Belgium, Mumbai has authorised the Belgium Visa
Application Centres in Mumbai and Bangalore to collect documents that need to
be legalised. The documents will be sent to the Consulate for legalisation on
the next working day after they have been submitted and VFS will charge a
nominal service charge of Rs.190/- (inclusive of all taxes) per document.
Applicants will continue to have the option of submitting their documents for
legalisation at the Consulate directly.
• The Bank Draft for legalisation has to be favoring "Consulate General of
Belgium, Mumbai A/C No 1080273 at ABN AMRO Bank” for Rs. 680/- per Bank Draft
per document.
• Alternative payment option is available at the Belgium Application
Centres for payment of legalisation fees at a service charge of Rs. 56/-
(inclusive of service tax) per document.
• The VFS processing fee of Rs. 190/- per document can be paid in cash.
• You have the option of requesting for a courier return of your
documents at an additional cost of Rs. 200/-.
• If the documents are not legalised by the Consulate, they will
return the Bank Draft. However, VFS processing fees will not be refunded.
• The processing time is one working day (after submission at the Belgium
Visa Application Centre) for documents submitted in Mumbai and two working days
(after submission at the Belgium Visa Application Centre) for documents
submitted in Bangalore.
• For counter collection of documents, please bring your receipt
with you at the time of collecting your documents. Collection timings will be
between 1630-1730 hours in BOM and between 1530-1630 hours in BLR, Monday -
Friday.
