COHABITATION VISA

When applying for a visa, you need to present the following documents at the embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence:

  • A travel document (e.g. national passport) valid for at least 12 months, in which a visa can be affixed.
  • Two visa application forms duly completed, signed and accompanied by two recent passport photos bearing a true likeness to the applicant.
  • One copy of the Belgian identity card or residence or settlement permit issued to the partner residing in Belgium.
  • A document proving that the two partners are not married.
  • A certified birth certificate copy.
  • Proof that the relationship is stable and long-term (e.g. letters, plane tickets, photographs, etc.).
  • Proof that the partner residing in Belgium has sufficient means of subsistence
  • A pledge of financial support signed by the partner residing in Belgium accompanied by guarantor's solvency and
  • A copy of a document proving the guarantor's Belgian citizenship (identity card or residence permit).
  • A certificate of Good Conduct or Police Clearance not more than six months prior to the date of application and covering the last five years.
  • A medical certificate completed by a Belgian Embassy or Consulate approved Doctor not more than six months prior to the date of application.

Important:

  1. The documents listed above are only the basic documents to be submitted in all cases. Additional documents may be requested by the Consulate and Applicants may also be invited for an interview.
  2. All submitted documents must be recent. Submitting false documents may be followed by legal action.
  3. The Consulate may ask for verification from the bank/financial institutions for the financial documents provided.
  4. Both partners must be at least 18 years old and unmarried. The conditions above apply to both heterosexual and same-sex relationships
  5. Official documents issued in India must be legalized by Ministry of External Affairs Patiala House New Delhi. Only Appostille legalization from Ministry of External Affairs will be accepted for the documents issued by Indian Public Authorities.
  6. The above mentioned type 'D' visa is valid for Belgium only and not valid for any other Schengen country.
  7. The Consulate also processes applications for Luxembourg.
