Visa for Family Reunification to join Parents

When applying for a visa, you need to present the following documents:

  • A travel document (e.g. national passport) valid for at least 15 months, in which a visa can be affixed.
  • Two visa application forms duly completed, signed and accompanied by two recent photos bearing a true likeness to the applicant.
  • An official Birth Certificate in original + translation issued by local, competent authorities
  • A copy of your (grand) parent's marriage certificate if you are applying for a visa as a descendant of their spouse.
  • A Medical Certificate duly issued by the authorized doctor of embassy duly legalized by the Embassy
  • The Policy of the medical covering (insurance) of the sponsor in Belgium (has to cover the entire joining family)
  • Prove of sufficient accommodation of the sponsor in Belgium for entire family (Police declaration for example)
  • Two copies of residential permit or of settlement of the person living in Belgium (i.e. a clear photocopy of both sides of the identity card)
  • For the child of a single parent living in Belgium desiring a family re-union, it is necessary to present:
    • either a offical death certificate if the other parent is deceased
      or
    • an authorization from the guardian: the signature of the spouse who delegates parental authority to the other spouse must compulsorily be legalized by the Ministry for External Affairs, Patiala House, New Delhi

Important:

  1. The documents listed above are only the basic documents to be submitted in all cases. Additional documents may be requested by the Embassy and Applicants may also be invited for an interview.
  2. All official/legal document copies needed should be authenticated and not more than 06 months older than the date of application for visa. Submitting false documents may be followed by legal action
  3. Official documents issued in India must be legalized by Ministry of External Affairs Patiala House New Delhi. Only Appostille legalization from Ministry of External Affairs will be accepted for the documents issued by Indian Public Authorities.  
  4. The above mentioned type 'D' visa is valid for Belgium only and not valid for any other Schengen country.
  5. The Embassy also processes applications for Luxembourg.
